Stefani Carter has released a TV Ad that purposefully misleads the people of North Texas. Let me be very clear, I do not now, nor have I ever supported Cap & Trade. Cap and Trade is bad for our economy, bad for America and bad for Texas. To try and tie me to generic statements made by my employer during an interview, totally separate from my campaign, is purposefully misleading and downright dishonest. Moreover, my stance on transportation is similar to that of conservative Republican leaders like State Senator John Carona and State Senator Bob Deuell. I do not now, nor have I ever supported outright efforts to raise the motor fuels tax. I do support indexing to keep our purchasing power current with inflation. These distortions demonstrate Ms. Carter’s fundamental lack of understanding on the key issues facing North Texas. I expected more from Stefani. The people of our district expect more from someone running to represent them in Austin.
Ms. Carter’s misleading, negative attacks speak directly to her character. A campaign is like a job interview. If Ms. Carter plays so loose and careless with the facts during an interview, how can the people of North Texas possibly trust her to be straight with them in Austin? Ms. Carter’s commercial is nothing more than a sad last ditch effort from a desperate campaign grounded in empty rhetoric. When candidates can’t compete in the arena of ideas, they have to resort to misleading attacks.
If Stefani feels so strongly about her views, why has she repeatedly denied the people of our district the chance to hear from her in a debate? From day one, I have run a positive campaign focused on ideas. I have laid out specific plans to get people back to work, and get our economy growing again.
I’d ask the people of the 102nd to take a close look at both Ms. Carter’s ad, and my recent TV Ad, “Solutions,” and judge for themselves. Ms. Carter appropriately titled her ad “Contrast.” I’d ask the people of North Texas to contrast our ideas. That job might be easier if Stefani had anything substantive to put forth. Unfortunately, Ms. Carter is now realizing that ideas matter, and that one has to bring more to the table than where they went to school.
Stefani Carter has taken the easy road in this campaign and not taken a position on anything. It takes leadership to put forth ideas and stand by your convictions. If the people of House District 102 want their next State Representative to be focused on empty rhetoric and baseless negative attacks, they have found their candidate in Stefani Carter.
