Last night I called Stefani Carter to congratulate her on her victory. She ran a tremendous campaign, and I look forward to her defeating Carol Kent in November. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Stefani.

I apologize for letting you down, and I wish we could have had a different outcome. But we can hold our heads high knowing that we ran a positive campaign focused on ideas.

We ran because we want our party to once again stand for ideas grounded in principle. We ran because North Texans are struggling under the worst economy since the Great Depression and are yearning for leadership. We ran because our state, now more than ever, needs a new generation of leaders. We ran because we love Texas. We ran because it was the right thing to do.

I consider the opportunity to campaign to represent you in Austin, one of the true blessings of my life. I cannot thank you enough for the support, encouragement and kindness you’ve shown me these past few months. While I will always cherish the memories of our campaign together, we must move forward into the future to increase our conservative majority in Austin.

Though our campaign together has come to an end, our effort to bring a Fresh Start to North Texas is just beginning.
