Thank You

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Last night I called Stefani Carter to congratulate her on her victory. She ran a tremendous campaign, and I look forward to her defeating Carol Kent in November. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Stefani.

I apologize for letting you down, and I wish we could have had a different outcome. But we can hold our heads high knowing that we ran a positive campaign focused on ideas.

We ran because we want our party to once again stand for ideas grounded in principle. We ran because North Texans are struggling under the worst economy since the Great Depression and are yearning for leadership. We ran because our state, now more than ever, needs a new generation of leaders. We ran because we love Texas. We ran because it was the right thing to do.

I consider the opportunity to campaign to represent you in Austin, one of the true blessings of my life. I cannot thank you enough for the support, encouragement and kindness you’ve shown me these past few months. While I will always cherish the memories of our campaign together, we must move forward into the future to increase our conservative majority in Austin.

Though our campaign together has come to an end, our effort to bring a Fresh Start to North Texas is just beginning.

Thank you for your support,

Geoff Bailey

Primary Day

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Today, months of door knocking, phone calls and countless volunteer hours will culminate as Republicans across North Texas head to the polls. We celebrate Election Day knowing that we have run a positive campaign focused on ideas. This primary gives our party has a clear choice: we can either move forward with ideas to reclaim our district, or we can maintain the status quo. Ideas matter and results are important.

Over the past few months, we have established a terrific dialogue. I have enjoyed hearing your thoughts and questions on how we can get Texans back to work, and get our economy growing again.

Today, I’m asking for your vote. I need your support at the ballot box because I want you to become my partner. Growing our economy, reforming our schools, securing our border and transforming our state will require an army of like-minded Texans. That’s why I need your help.

Thank you for the opportunity you have blessed me with in this campaign. With your support, we will restore faith in the Republican Party as the party of good government, and truly bring a Fresh Start for North Texas.

Yet Again, Stefani Carter Misleads the Public

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Stefani Carter has released a TV Ad that purposefully misleads the people of North Texas. Let me be very clear, I do not now, nor have I ever supported Cap & Trade. Cap and Trade is bad for our economy, bad for America and bad for Texas. To try and tie me to generic statements made by my employer during an interview, totally separate from my campaign, is purposefully misleading and downright dishonest. Moreover, my stance on transportation is similar to that of conservative Republican leaders like State Senator John Carona and State Senator Bob Deuell. I do not now, nor have I ever supported outright efforts to raise the motor fuels tax. I do support indexing to keep our purchasing power current with inflation. These distortions demonstrate Ms. Carter’s fundamental lack of understanding on the key issues facing North Texas. I expected more from Stefani. The people of our district expect more from someone running to represent them in Austin.

Ms. Carter’s misleading, negative attacks speak directly to her character. A campaign is like a job interview. If Ms. Carter plays so loose and careless with the facts during an interview, how can the people of North Texas possibly trust her to be straight with them in Austin? Ms. Carter’s commercial is nothing more than a sad last ditch effort from a desperate campaign grounded in empty rhetoric. When candidates can’t compete in the arena of ideas, they have to resort to misleading attacks.

If Stefani feels so strongly about her views, why has she repeatedly denied the people of our district the chance to hear from her in a debate? From day one, I have run a positive campaign focused on ideas. I have laid out specific plans to get people back to work, and get our economy growing again.

I’d ask the people of the 102nd to take a close look at both Ms. Carter’s ad, and my recent TV Ad, “Solutions,” and judge for themselves. Ms. Carter appropriately titled her ad “Contrast.” I’d ask the people of North Texas to contrast our ideas. That job might be easier if Stefani had anything substantive to put forth. Unfortunately, Ms. Carter is now realizing that ideas matter, and that one has to bring more to the table than where they went to school.

Stefani Carter has taken the easy road in this campaign and not taken a position on anything. It takes leadership to put forth ideas and stand by your convictions. If the people of House District 102 want their next State Representative to be focused on empty rhetoric and baseless negative attacks, they have found their candidate in Stefani Carter.

Geoff Bailey TV Ad, “Solutions”

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Today I launched my first TV Ad, “Solutions.”

The people of our district are looking for more than empty rhetoric, they’re looking for solutions.

I’m not running because it looks good on a resume, or because I’m the party favorite. I’m running to be your State Representative because struggling families are desperate for leadership. The worst economy since the Great Depression has taken its toll on our community, and I am the only candidate who has provided a plan to get folks back to work.

Campaigns are about more than yard signs and glitzy mailers, they are about a fundamental question: Who has the best ideas to make a positive impact in the lives of their constituents? In the battle of ideas, every day we have demonstrated ours is the campaign to look to for solutions.

Our party has a clear choice on March 2nd. We can be a party more concerned with rhetoric, or we can be a party focused on results. We can champion the status quo, or we can send someone to Austin who isn’t afraid to take a stand, and has real solutions to the many problems facing our district.

You can help me keep this ad on the air. Donate $25 today and help me keep my message going strong.

I wanted to personally share my TV Ad with you. If you agree with me that North Texas deserves a State Representative with solutions, please pass along to your friends and neighbors.

Sincerely,

Geoff Bailey

I’m Asking for Your Vote

I'm Asking for Your Vote

I'm Asking for Your Vote

Friends,

Tomorrow, early voting begins. I’m asking for your vote because ours is the campaign of ideas. I am the only candidate in this race who has real ideas to tackle the tough challenges in our district. Don’t just take my word for it, see who the Dallas Morning News believes deserves your vote.

Click here and find your early voting location.

If you believe in empowering people, instead of empowering government, I’m asking for your support. If you want your next State Representative to be more interested in results than empty rhetoric, I’d like to have your vote. If principled leadership is more important to you than politics as usual, I hope I can count on you.

North Texas is faced with incredible challenges; record unemployment, skyrocketing health care premiums, congested roadways and schools that are lagging behind the rest of the world.

The people of our district are looking for leadership. As conservatives, we can stick our heads in the sand and hope a national backlash against Democrats will carry us to victory, or we can provide solutions that restore faith in our party as the party of good government.

I believe our community needs a new generation of leaders, with fresh ideas and bold vision. With your help, we can bring a Fresh Start to North Texas.

Carter Refuses to Debate

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Geoff Bailey, a Republican candidate for Texas House District 102, has repeatedly urged Stefani Carter to take a stand and debate. Carter has refused to debate and does not believe it is necessary for the people of North Texas to hear where she stands before they cast their vote. Bailey released the following statement:

“Several attempts have been made to urge Stefani Carter to share her positions with the people of our district. I have personally called Stefani on two occasions asking her to debate, and I was stonewalled both times. “

“I have been in this race for several months now, and I am still not able to tell you where Ms. Carter stands on the important issues facing Texas. I know she often talks about “’common sense solutions,’” but I have yet to determine what that means.”

“I think it’s unfortunate that Ms. Carter won’t give the people of the 102nd the opportunity to hear her views. If her opponent doesn’t know where she stands, how can the people of our district?”

“North Texas is faced with unprecedented challenges. Families and small businesses in our district are struggling with the worst economy since the Great Depression. Texans are seeing their health care premiums soar out of control and their energy costs continue to skyrocket. Drug violence that has torn Mexico apart has crept over the border into our state. Our border is broken, and illegal immigration puts our citizens at risk.”

“I am proud that I am the candidate in this race with concrete plans to deal with the tough challenges facing our district. I bring a Fresh Start for the people of North Texas.”

The Dallas Morning News Endorses Geoff Bailey for State Representative

DMN Endorses Geoff Bailey for State Rep

DMN Endorses Geoff Bailey for State Rep

This is a big day for our campaign!

Repeatedly, we have demonstrated that ours is the campaign of ideas. Today, our efforts have been vindicated. The Dallas Morning News has endorsed me for State Representative! This powerful endorsement demonstrates that we have more to offer the people of North Texas than empty conservative rhetoric.

Check out the Dallas Morning News endorsement:

“In a match-up of political newcomers, Geoff Bailey deserves the nod over Stefani Carter in the Republican primary for Texas House District 102.

Despite his youth, Bailey, 26, displays a better understanding of the key issues confronting Texas and offers specific ideas to tackle the state’s financial challenges. While he says it is important to lower the tax burden on Texans, he also says the state needs to invest in solving crucial water and transportation challenges.

For example, Bailey, a UCLA graduate who works for billionaire T. Boone Pickens, says the state must establish a specific funding mechanism to develop additional water sources. On transportation, he favors indexing the motor fuels tax to inflation to pay for projects that alleviate congested roadways, ending diversions of highway dollars to other uses and allowing communities to decide whether to tax themselves to fund local transportation needs.

While he concedes that these positions aren’t always popular in conservative Republican circles, he says state lawmakers must show leadership in these areas to keep Texas competitive with the rest of the globe. “When I talk about transportation, I’m talking about economic growth,” he said. “The Republican Party in Texas is going to have to take a more mature stance when it comes to transportation funding.”

Carter, 31, a Harvard-educated lawyer, seems less informed and willing to commit to specific strategies. Carter said cutting inefficiencies and tightening spending would help address the state’s budget crisis and transportation needs but offered no long-term proposals. And when asked whether the school finance system needs additional tweaking, the former Collin County prosecutor first said she couldn’t commit to scrapping or keeping the business tax, then later said the tax should be repealed.”

As your next State Representative, I’ll bring principled conservative leadership to Austin that is focused on results. Forward this message on to your friends and neighbors. With your help, we can bring a fresh start to North Texas!

On to Victory!

Welcome to GeoffBailey2010.com

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Welcome to GeoffBailey2010.com! Thanks for taking the time to learn more about my candidacy.

After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to run for District 102 of the Texas State House of Representatives. I am running because we need a new generation of leaders, with fresh ideas and a bold vision. Texans are tired of politics as usual, and I want to bring a fresh start to our district.

Texans have spent the last 18 months inundated with the mantra of hope and change. However, the reality is that North Texans are struggling with the worst economy since the Great Depression. Families in District 102 continue to struggle with job loss and downsizing, while it seems government is bigger and more unaccountable than ever. The people of Dallas County are looking to believe in something again. They continue to be let down by scandal, inaction and partisan bickering in Austin and Washington. I will give our politics a fresh start by empowering people, instead of empowering government.

The next legislative session will see a dramatic decline in state revenue. Many in Austin will want to make up the short fall by raising taxes on businesses and families. I believe the worst thing we could do as a state, is to try and dig our way out of this recession by burying them in higher taxes. There is nothing more important than getting our economy growing again, and I am determined to do everything I can to get people back to work.

I hope you’ll take some time to navigate my website. Take a minute to see where I stand on the issues. Hopefully, I’ve covered the issues that are most important to you. If not, please feel free to let me know. I want to hear from you!

Change in our district starts with you, and I’d like you to be my partner and help me bring a Fresh Start to Dallas County.

DMN: Bailey Has it Right on Transportation

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Once again, we prove that we are the campaign of ideas. Don’t just take my word for it, check out this piece from the Dallas Morning News:

12:00 PM Wed, Jan 20, 2010
Rodger Jones/Editorial Writer

I almost fainted. The DMN editorial board had two Republicans in for interviews yesterday for the North Dallas-Lake Highlands-Garland House seat now held by Democrat Carol Kent. (This is HD 102, the former Goolsby seat.)

One of the two candidates, Geoff Bailey, actually came out for indexing the gas tax so it doesn’t lose buying power to inflation.

That’s a political risk for a Republican. Hard anti-taxers have criticized indexing as a creeping tax increase.

But here is Bailey arguing that Republicans have to have a “more mature stance” on paying for transportation. He said the state has a funding hole that has to be plugged, and so his party has to provide solutions. (Subtext: Repeating “no new taxes” doesn’t get roads built.)

Bailey cast it as an economic issue, among other things. Businesses don’t want to put up with traffic congestion, like the 75 and LBJ corridors in the heart of the district, he said.

Other parts of his transportation positions include stopping diversions of fuel taxes to non-highway uses and redirecting funds from rural areas to fight urban congestion.

Political footnote: Bailey said he talked with Sen. John Carona, transportation chairman for the Texas Senate, for a tutorial on funding transportation. His positions reflected that.

Carter, meanwhile, didn’t have a well-rounded position on transportation. She said she would stop diversions (as would most politicians in Austin) but would stop there for now, even while acknowledging that the move wouldn’t provide all the money that’s needed. She said reforming TxDOT would help, too.

Another political footnote: Carter said she was hoping to set up her own tutorial with Carona.

I’m guessing she doesn’t want it as badly as Republicans want this seat back. Carter’s campaign is funded mostly with homebuilder Bob Perry’s money.
